St Helens announce huge following ahead of Super League fixture as Warrington Wolves warn supporters

St Helens have announced a huge following for their away fixture at Warrington Wolves tonight.

Over 2,300 Saints fans are expected to make the trip to the Halliwell Jones Stadium for the mouthwatering clash.

However, it comes in the wake of Warrington being fined for crowd trouble.

The Wolves have agreed to pay costs of £3,000 for the damage done to visiting supporters’ coaches after their Round 2 home fixture against Castleford Tigers on February 17 – with an additional fine of £2,000 imposed for failing to adopt appropriate measures in controlling the behaviour of spectators. The fine is suspended until the end of the 2023 season.

Warrington have revealed that they have since taken subsequent preventative actions at every home fixture since to counteract any potential anti-social behaviour. However, a small selection of supporters have continued to cause issues on match days which have been flagged to the club’s attention and, following investigations, resulted in bans.

The club warned: “We would like to remind supporters that flares and smoke bombs are strictly prohibited at all stadiums. Any fan caught in possession will be ejected and a subsequent ban issued. The presence of sniffer dogs will be around the ground at Thursday’s Betfred Super League game against St Helens due to this.

“At away grounds we kindly remind supporters they are representing the club and should respect the ground regulations at our fellow Super League club’s stadia.

“Monetary fines are hugely damaging for the club along with the impact on our reputation within the game.

“We thank our fans for their support and ask for cooperation as we strive to make The Halliwell Jones Stadium a safe place to enjoy the greatest sport of all.”

Gareth Widdop is expected to make his return for Daryl Powell’s men with the England international missing a number of recent games following a glute problem, with teenage prop Luke Thomas expected to make his debut.

Warrington have, however, been hit with an injury blow to Josh Thewlis who limped off against Catalans Dragons last week with a knee problem.

Saints will be without Regan Grace and Will Hopoate though the duo are expected to be back after the Challenge Cup Final, with Daniel Hill the only change in the 21-man squad as Jumah Sambou drops out.
