After Round 19 of Super League there are several sides facing disciplinary concerns after a spate of sin bins and red cards with Leeds Rhinos and St Helens among those clubs.
Leeds Rhinos kicked the round’s action off as they beat Huddersfield Giants 34-6 but there was plenty of controversy surrounding Sam Lisone who avoided a sin bin for an elbow to the face of Olly Russell when carrying the ball.
It prompted calls for change on how the video referee works from pundit Jon Wilkin so it could be likely that the prop hears from the Match Review Panel today, especially given his late sin bin for a melee including Adam Milner who also saw yellow.
Friday’s action saw all the victors score 40 or more points with Warrington going top after shocking Wigan 40-4, Hull KR leaping into second after a 40-16 win over London and most incredibly, Leigh winning 46-4 to hand St Helens a fifth successive league defeat.
It marked the first time in 38 years that the Red Vee have gone on such a run in the league and it’s added much more pressure to Paul Wellens. It also came at a cost with star Jack Welsby picking up a hamstring injury.
Saints loss also saw them drop to sixth with Catalans and Salford moving to fourth and fifth respectively. The French side beat Hull FC 24-16 whilst Salford stopped Castleford’s winning streak with a 30-22 win in a Super League game where disciplinary woes cost Cas per head coach Craig Lingard.
The Match Review Panel could have their work cut out today when they assess the Super League disciplinary fallout with two red cards and seven yellows to assess.

Thursday’s game saw Lisone at the centre of attention and whilst he was sin-binned for a melee late on, it’s his earlier elbow that was placed on report that could land him in hot water.
Sky Sports Brian Carney facetiously suggested that such an offence could have landed him six months on the sidelines should he have committed it in Round One when the laws were far stricter.
The two red cards of the round came in the Catalans and Hull FC came with Tariq Sims sent for moving an injured player, something that Hull KR’s Shaun Kenny-Dowall received a four-game ban for last year.
Meanwhile, Ligi Sao caught Sam Tomkins high, something that Sylvester Namo of Castleford copped a yellow card for in Saturday’s other game.
St Helens could be adding to their injury woes with two senior players potentially facing action as Mark Percival and Jonny Lomax were both sin-binned for late hits, just like Castleford’s Liam Horne.
Sam Burgess had plenty to say about Matt Dufty’s sin bin for a tip tackle so it will be interesting to see how the Super League disciplinary process rules on that one.
