Sonny Bill Williams sends out ominous message following rumoured $8 million deal

Sonny Bill Williams has sent out an ominous message on social media following claims by a former rival that he is ‘dodging’ a fight.

As Paul Gallen geared up for his long-anticipated fight against Darcy Lussick before Christmas, the former Cronulla Sharks star called out Williams for ‘running away’.

Williams had originally agreed to a fight between the pair, but Gallen has revealed to the Daily Telegraph that he dodged a deal which would be worth $8 million.

British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn wants Gallen and Williams to fight each other twice in 2022 – with each boxer taking home $2 million per fight – as part of his attempts to build streaming service DAZN in Australia.

But, Gallen previously revealed that the New Zealand cross-code star had yet to reply to the offer made by the ex-Cronulla captain and his team.

“So I’m f…ing filthy,” Gallen told the Daily Telegraph.

“Who else is getting that sort of cash? There are world champions who don’t get that money.

“It’s unbelievable.

“So given his response do you think that fight with Sonny ever happens? I doubt it.”

That being said, Williams looks to be gearing up for a fight, posting on his social media a video of him boxing a punch bag with the caption: “#March2022”.

Williams himself had recently been in the UK, supporting his friend and boxer Joseph Parker who was able to claim victory over Derek Chisora for the second time in a highly-anticipated bout in December.

It was the first time that Williams had returned to British shores since leaving the Toronto Wolfpack following their Super League exit in 2020.
