Sonny Bill Williams on the possibility of taking a pay cut

Toronto forward Sonny Bill Williams says he will ‘a hundred percent’ take a pay cut to help the sport survive through the coronavirus pandemic.

The Super League season is currently suspended due to the worldwide health crisis and the Wolfpack superstar says he is prepared to do his bit.

When asked on Sky Sports News if he would be willing to take a pay cut, Williams said: “A hundred percent, I would be that way inclined.

“When it comes to taking pay cuts, to keep the game afloat, it would be crazy not to think that’s going to occur, especially with the way things are happening in the sporting world.”

The 34-year-old is currently back in New Zealand after minor knee surgery and will spend time with his family during these testing times.

“I consider myself in a privileged position and (I am) taking a step back and understanding that sport is just a game and there are things in life that are more important,” said SBW.

“But in terms of sport, it is crazy to think some organisations might not make it through.”
