Son of Leeds Rhinos star close to securing future which could impact World Cup star

There is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding many of the NRL’s star players.

This partially comes from the fact that now players in the final years of their contracts can negotiate with other clubs as of the 1st of November.

However, the uncertainty over the salary cap situation in Australia has compounded these questions.

However, one man whose future seems set is Sam Walker.

Born in Leeds to former Leeds Rhinos star Ben Walker, the halfback has shone in the NRL over the last few seasons since breaking through at Sydney Roosters.

This has been the first big question over his long term future however according to the Daily Telegraph, the Roosters have decided that he is their halfback now and for the future with Walker set to sign a three-year deal with the Roosters.

This could have a big bearing on one of the stars of the Rugby League World Cup.

New Zealand international Joey Manu picked up the Golden Boot award as the competition’s best player. He did so playing at fullback beating teammates James Tedesco and Joseph Suaali’i to the award who were both playing fullback.

This has raised suggestions that Manu, usually a centre, should be brought into the spine perhaps as a five-eighth to partner Walker and with the settlement of Walker’s future these questions have reportedly intensified.

This would see another World Cup star, Luke Keary of Ireland, be put into doubt. However, it has been speculated in the past that Keary is one head injury away from retirement.

Could all these factors see Manu make the switch to six?
