Son of Leeds Rhinos legend Kylie Leuluai signs for Super League club

Leeds Rhinos

The son of Leeds Rhinos’ legend Kylie Leuluai has signed a contract with a Super League club, however, it is not the Rhinos.

Kylie Leuluai became a fan favourite during his time at Headingley and it wasn’t limited to the home fans but to all fans of Super League with the New Zealand-born prop becoming an adopted son of English Rugby League.

During his nine seasons with Leeds Rhinos, he played over 250 games and amassed six Grand Final rings, two League Leaders Shields, two Challenge Chups and two World Club Challenges.

He will go down as one of the club’s best-ever overseas signings and was part of that iconic 2015 Grand Final team that saw a plethora of legends hang up their boots and go out at the very top.

That was also the season that Leeds Rhinos handed out a record 50-0 defeat to Hull KR in the Challenge Cup Final. Fast forward nine years and his middle son is signing a contract with a Super League club, but it is not Leeds Rhinos.

Leuluai’s son, Kingston, has penned a deal with Warrington Wolves which is the club where Leuluai was the Strength and Conditioning coach and is now in charge of player welfare and acts as Head of Rugby Operations.

In a post on Facebook, Kylie’s wife shared the news that Kingston had signed a scholarship deal with Wire.

The post read: “He never allows a post about himself but this time we’re not listening. Middle son deserves to be celebrated. He started with Rugby League then experimented with other sports but he’s come full circle and we couldn’t be more proud of our Kingy. Scholarship signed @WarringtonRLFC.”

Attached to the statement are images of Kingston signing the contract alongside his mother and father and two siblings at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

He’ll have plenty of eyes on him given who his dad is but he’ll almost certainly be incredibly grounded based on that too. One person who he may get competitive with is his older brother Marley who actually signed a professional contract with Burnley Football Club last year.

Marley has made four appearances for New Zealand Under 17s but is yet to make a senior appearance for Burnley, whom he joined from Manchester City.
