Hull FC scrum-half Marc Sneyd will miss up to two months after sustaining lateral ligament damage against Huddersfield on Sunday.
The 29-year-old landed awkwardly on his ankle and had to be helped from the field.
The Black and Whites have now confirmed on their official club website that Sneyd will be out of action for up to eight weeks, with a further seven players set to miss this weekend’s clash with Warrington.
It’s a huge blow to Andy Last’s side, with Sneyd being responsible for over a third of FC’s points scored this season thanks to his prolific goal-kicking record.
Elsewhere, Ratu Naulago failed a Head Injury Assessment at the weekend and is also unavailable this week.
Scott Taylor and Masi Matongo continue to nurse respective back and shoulder problems, although Matongo is due to return within the next two to three weeks.
Andre Savelio and Josh Jones are both still out for unspecified reasons, while 39-year-old Gareth Ellis has been rested due to the short turnaround.
It means Last has been forced to call on several young players to plug the gaps. Impressive forward Jack Brown came off the bench last week, while Kieran Buchanan, Charlie Patterson-Lund, Cameron Scott and Ben McNamara are all still in contention.
