Smithies handed six-match ban

Wigan forward Morgan Smithies has been handed a six-match ban for two separate incidents that occurred during the Warriors’ game against Castleford at the weekend.

The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to a Grade D change of Dangerous Contact relating to a crusher tackle on James Clare for which he was given a four-game suspension, having already been issued a two-match penalty notice for a headbutting incident.

The RFL’s disciplinary tribunal also fined Smithies £500 for the offences.

Elsewhere, Huddersfield prop Suaia Matagi accepted his two-match penalty notice for Dangerous contact on Hull forward Joe Cator served by the Match Review Panel on Monday.

While Cator himself also accepted a one-match penalty notice for dangerous contact on the Giants’ Sam Hewitt.

The lad is an accident waiting to happen. Not the first time he has injured a player. He would have had his head knocked off back in the day. Also why hasn’t James Child been brought to justice. Last Two games he has ref’d Castleford where both have had players banned after the game. But not red carded during them. They have video evidence to check complaints. This needs sorting as there is no benefit to the team playing only to the teams that play them in the future . Once again Super league let’s itself down.
