Smith praises squad after Wigan win

Hull KR Head Coach Tony Smith has praised those who stepped up for Hull KR during their win over Wigan Warriors.

The Robins came into the game without the likes of Adam Quinlan, Ryan Brierley, Matt Parcell and Jamie Ellis after last week’s defeat at St Helens.

Replacing them in the side were Will Dagger, Mikey Lewis, Jez Litten and Jordan Abdull.

He said: “I have asked some to back up tonight, and there are some that did tonight and I won’t ask them to next week.

“We will keep rotating, they are a good bunch. I give them each an explanation, and they buy in.

“But they are good headaches to have. With players in form.”

He also reserved praise for Lewis, who failed to finish with a calf injury.

He added: “He’s got a really bright future. I like what he does and he will get plenty more opportunities throughout the season.

“He was bitterly disappointed to come off. He is a little competitor.

“There are a lot of good, young halfbacks in this country, that do well when you give them the freedom to play.

“He is no exception. There is plenty more to come from him.”
