Smith blasts own players for referee chat

Hull KR head coach Tony Smith admitted he had strong words with Joel Tomkins and Danny McGuire during their game against Castleford.

The pair could be seen talking to referee Chris Kendall throughout Sunday’s match, often questioning the officials’ decisions.

Despite McGuire’s drop-goal helping Rovers claim a crucial 27-26 golden-point win, Smith was not pleased with the actions of both his experienced half-back and captain for parts of the game.

Speaking to the media at Craven Park, Smith said: “Their focus was in the wrong area; too much time spent talking with the referee.

“I let them know they needed to stop it or they could come and spend some more time talking with me, rather than him.”

With victory over the Tigers yesterday, KR now have have a two-point buffer to bottom-placed London going into the final five Super League games of the season.
