Sky Sports pundits underline real reason Hull KR lost to Wigan Warriors

As Hull KR lost a 22-14 lead against Wigan Warriors to lose to a Liam Farrell try in golden point there were many reasons to explain their defeat.

Some would no doubt count Hull KR as unlucky for the drop goal attempt that hit the post and others would look to the magic of Bevan French and Liam Farrell.

But for Sky Sports’ pundits there was another reason behind Hull KR’s defeat.

It all started when on their last set of the 80, instead of kicking to touch, they ran it and were tackled 10 metres out.

The shock at this can be summed up by Terry O’Connor’s comments:

“Bet your bottom dollar that it will go to Mikey Lewis down this sideline, no it’s not!

“Surely Mikey Lewis is going to kick it, no he’s going to lose possession on the Wigan 10.”

Jon Wells was very critical of this, saying:

“That is the one element I don’t think they have got quite right this evening.”

Meanwhile, Terry O’Connor added:

“You said before about finishing your sets well, that is a prime example of not finishing your sets well.”

This led Wells to suggest that if they went on to lose in the last minute it would be key to the review:

“If they lose, that will be essential to the review.”

Then after the heart break that Hull KR suffered, O’Connor had no sympathy for them as he underlined how costly that was for the Robins:

“How costly was that last play at the other end of the field? Get it off the pitch. Look at the scoreboard, see what’s in front of you.”
