As Warrington Wolves battled St Helens last night it was a tremendous game only rivalled by the golden point classic as Wigan Warriors were stunned by Wakefield Trinity.
But this was two top teams at their best battling it out for the win and two vital points in the ladder.
It was a closely fought battle that the Saints edged in the end but there were some crucial potential forward pass calls that went against the Wolves tonight.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Jon Wilkin said: “Those fans will feel like those three potential forward passes let them down.”
Barrie McDermott meanwhile added: “Those Warrington fans will feel that the 50/50 calls went against them, they could feel aggrieved tonight.”
As they saw the last of the passes, Wilkin said: “That’s another one they may feel aggrieved about. It is a close one.”
Speaking the first pass, McDermott said: “They have done very well. They have defended, well and stood their ground.
“And let’s be fair they have only been unpicked by one bad defensive misread and let’s be honest a forward pass.
“It was forward every day of the week.”
Jon Wilkin meanwhile said: “It was forward wasn’t it.
“It’s closer than it actually looks. There are two factors, Jack Welsby cuts under and Lewis Dodd is falling but it is forward.”
But he felt the Wolves should have concentrated more on defending the play rather than the pass:
“Warrington could have defended that but they have let the forward pass be the defining factor.
“Saints just got on with it.”
