Last night Super League and World Champions St Helens snapped their losing run with a closely fought win over Hull FC.
The Black and Whites perhaps should have won the game with Brad Dwyer fumbling a huge chance with just minutes to go with the line at his mercy.
That perhaps embodies the luck Saints had in the mind of Phil Clarke who said on Sky Sports that the Saints were lucky especially to lead at halftime with Clarke saying Hull FC were the better team.
He said: “The best team in the first 40 were behind at halftime. I thought Hull FC were amazing especially with their confidence.
“I think when you look back on that first half, we can overlook the importance of luck in sport.
“Jack Welsby rode his luck in that first half, a great player but he rode his luck when he loses that ball in the in goal area, it is flicked out but bounced back to him and it is only a goal line drop out.”
Equally, Terry O’Connor believed that a Josh Griffin no try could have been awarded which would have seen Hull FC strike first and potentially go on and win.
He said:
“I thought this could have been a try. There looks to be a hand under the point of the ball but the belly of the ball could have hit the ground but it was sent up as a no try.”
