Sky Sports pundits raise huge Wigan Warriors concern

Wigan Warriors were stunned by the Catalans Dragons who claimed a thumping win over the Warriors at the Magic Weekend.

Wigan have now dropped down to third, only inside the top four on points difference, whilst Catalans Dragons are now top of the league.

As they reflected on the game on Sky Sports, the likes of Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Jon Wilkin were surprised by the defeat.

Buchanan meanwhile raised a huge defensive concern for the Warriors down their right edge.

He said: “I am not that surprised, surprised by the gap maybe. It was a rugby league masterclass. I expected them to come here and perform.

“There was a lot of up for grabs going to the top of the table.

“I’m a little bit surprised how far Wigan were off, especially defensively on the right edge.”

This came as he described Tom Johnstone as the league’s premier winger:

“Tom Johnstone is the best winger in the competition for me. He is the premier winger for me.”

Jon Wilkin though was more impressed by Matt Whitley:

“Inside of him, his backrower Matt Whitley has probably produced one of the best performances as a backrower that I have seen for a long time.

“He bagged a brace as well today. He was clinical. The full left edge was clinical and he did indeed bag a brace.

“A line running backrower, he was exceptional.”
