Sky Sports pundits predict huge move for Super League star

There is plenty of talk about potential big moves at the moment now that the recruitment window is open.

One big story doing the rounds is Warrington Wolves star Daryl Clark to St Helens in 2024 to replace retiring legend James Roby.

Now Sky Sports pundits Brian Carney, Jon Wilkin and Jamie Jones-Buchanan have backed the move.

Carney said: “I’ve picked Daryl Clark [as his player to watch] who may seem an obvious one. All the reports say that he’s on his way to St Helens to replace the great James Roby, if you can indeed replace the irreplaceable man who is set to retire at the end of the season.

“We’ve estimated his salary cap value at £140,000, of course a marquee player in his time, we know what he can do. You’ve got an issue when James Roby leaves your club but if Daryl Clark replaces him then the loss is less keenly felt.”

Jon Wilkin added: “He’s a dangerous ball carrier, when you play on the front foot he’s an outstanding player to have in your team.

“I don’t think he carries the same gravitas as James Roby but without doubt he’d be a great signing for any Super League club.”

Meanwhile, Leeds Rhinos legend Jamie Jones-Buchanan believes it could bring the best out of Clark: “I think a fresh move would be great for him as well, it might revive some of the quality that we saw when he won the Man of Steel.

“They need a great hooker don’t they? Kruise Leeming was another who was linked there.”
