Sky Sports pundits Jon Wilkin and Brian Carney slam Leeds Rhinos’ Zane Tetevano and James Bentley

Leeds Rhinos had been getting a number of players back from injury and suspension in recent weeks to give head coach Rohan Smith some food for thought going forward.

However, it’s likely that the West Yorkshire club will have to do without forward Zane Tetevano for another period of time following a horror shot on St Helens’ Konrad Hurrell as the game between the two old rivals wound down last night.

Saints were in command, leading 36-12 before Tetevano chopped Hurrell down as the latter went through to chase his own kick, with referee Tom Grant having no option but to give Tetevano his marching orders.

Having had form for ill-discipline since joining the Rhinos back in 2021, the Leeds man could be looking at a lengthy ban with Sky Sports pundits Brian Carney and Jon Wilkin unhappy with the tackle.

“It’s a red card as ever you’ve seen a red card and nobody wants to see that in the game,” Carney said.

Those views were echoed by Wilkin who added: “It’s a physical game, but Leeds are getting it wrong too often and that challenge was evidence of that.

“It was a horrible one.”

The red card for Tetevano was compounded by the fact that the Rhinos were already down to 12 men after Bodene Thompson was sent to the sinbin for a trip before James Bentley rounded off a horrible night overall with his own sinbinning moments from the end for kicking the ball out of Alex Walmsley’s grasp as the latter wanted to take a quick penalty.

And, Wilkin also had a few choice words to say about Bentley, stating: “He’s like a guard dog, but he had an owner who disciplined him at St Helens.

“He has gone to Leeds and the lid has been taken off and the discipline is gone.

“His skill was aggression close to the line and he gets paid far too much to miss as many games as he has done.”
