Sky Sports pundits Jon Wells and Brian Carney make conclusion on Wigan Warriors’ Bevan French future

Wigan Warriors’ Bevan French once more lit up our television screens on Thursday night, registering a hat-trick in a 46-4 demolition of understrength Hull KR.

The Robins were second best throughout and had to rely on just one solitary try from Ethan Ryan to avoid being nilled like their bitter rivals Hull FC a fortnight before.

For French, he notched up his 22nd, 23rd and 24th tries of the season so far with some devastating finishes down the right hand side.

However, most of the season has been focused on his future and whether he will remain with Wigan at the DW Stadium for 2023 and beyond.

But, the Australian revealed that he was ‘pretty close’ to getting a deal done live on Sky Sports last night, with a wry smile suggesting that the news is soon around the corner.

“I’m getting pretty close,” French said on Sky Sports.

“But, I’ve been saying that for the least few weeks that I’m close.

“I guess fortunately I’m in a good side and we are hitting good form, so I keep getting close to a deal and then things get put back to square one.”

From that, Sky Sports pundits Jon Wells and Brian Carney made their own conclusions, believing that French is about to sign a deal with the Warriors.

“Wigan will get first bite on the cherry – no pun intended,” Wells said.

“And they might have to bite the bullet and go for it because he is that important to them.”

Carney continued: “From what he was saying there, we can suggest that he may be staying at the DW stadium.”

If so, it would be a massive coup for Wigan and Super League with French forming an incredible partnership with Jai Field with the duo capable of ripping fellow teams to shreds.
