Sky Sports pundits have huge concern for Wigan Warriors

Barrie McDermott

Sky Sports’ Brian Carney, Barrie McDermott have a major concern for Wigan Warriors.

The Warriors may be second in the league but some games that they should be winning by a more comfortable margin are closer than expected because of missed goal kicks such as against Leeds Rhinos in the Challenge Cup and Hull KR in Super League this week.

“Is that a worry for Wigan?” Carney asked, “Their main goal kicker came into this game with a success rate of 65%, that’s before this game

“Last week he kicked one from four, this week it was one from five.

“Is that a concern for Wigan?”

Barrie McDermott quickly agreed and suggested that Harry Smith rushed the attempt at goal against Hull KR that could have won the game in normal time:

“I think it is. What I will say is he took the last kick very quickly. He had all the time in the world and he maybe rushed it.”

Buchanan did defend Smith however: “He probably didn’t want to over analyse it or over think it.

“What I will say is, I can’t say much about goal kicking but we played with one of the best in the business.”

This is of course Super League’s all time leading points scorer and goal kicker as well as rugby league’s third highest ever points scorer in Kevin Sinfield.

McDermott said it is powerful when you play in a team with someone like Sinfield:

“Yes and it was four to six almost every time. That is powerful.”
