Sky Sports pundits claim Super League coach is under pressure

Friday night was a seismic night in the 2023 Betfred Super League season and not just because two of the competition’s heavyweights were beaten in the shape of Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves but because of the impact on the clubs at the bottom of the league.

Wakefield Trinity stunned Wigan on Friday night with a Will Dagger penalty sending the game to golden point where Dagger proved capable of stabbing a dagger to the heart of the Warriors with a winning drop goal.

That win coupled with defeat for Castleford Tigers against Leigh Leopards cut the gap between both West Yorkshire clubs to just two points.

When Wakefield defeated Leeds Rhinos in Round 15 the relegation battle looked well and truly on but a win for Castleford Tigers against the Warrington Wolves gave them breathing space but back to back wins for Wakefield over Salford Red Devils and Wigan have made a real battle of it at the bottom.

Now there is pressure on the club but also coach Andy Last.

Some Castleford fans have demanded change on social media whilst Brian Carney said: “Castleford Tigers are now under pressure but so is Andy Last.

“We have seen Ian Watson under immense pressure lately and now it seems to be Last’s turn.”

Paul Cooke meanwhile added: “I don’t think Castleford fans were very happy on Friday night whilst everyone else was getting excited.”
