Castleford Tigers still sit 10th with just two wins from their first nine games and the Sky Sports pundits last night after they lost to Salford Red Devils attempted to dissect what went wrong.

Jamie Jones Buchanan said:

“Andy Last talked about energy after the game and about a lack of energy leading to errors and fatigue can make you make mistakes.

“To me, they don’t look athletic enough apart from Greg Eden, they don’t look electric to me.

“They also have to concentrate better.

“You can turn up and perform to your very best but if your ceiling is seven out of 10 and that is as high as you can go, there is a lot of progression for Cas.”

Asked if they have potential he simply said: “No.”

He then repeated the same answer – “no” – when asked if they will make the play-offs.

Terry O’Connor echoed this bleak prediction for the Tigers but backed them to survive:

“They aren’t a side that can make the play-off but they can survive in Super League for sure.”

Asked if this was because “Wakefield are so poor” by Brian Carney, O’Connor said:

“A bit of both. Look Joe Westerman, one of their key weapons who normally controls so much of the middle, didn’t play. He is a really good link from the spine and to the forwards.

“Take him out and they look different.”
