Hull FC have been a quandary in the 2022 Super League season.

Up and down, the Black and Whites still sit in a play-0ff place, but are now just two points ahead of seventh-place Salford Red Devils following a shocking 60-0 loss to Wigan Warriors on Friday night.

That followed a brilliant 34-28 win over neighbours Hull KR at the Magic Weekend, but the week before Brett Hodgson’s men had been annihilated by Leeds Rhinos.

And, following the disappointment of Friday night against Wigan – when Bevan French broke the try-scoring record during a game with seven – Sky Sports pundits Barrie McDermott and Jon Wilkin launched a scathing assessment of the Black and Whites.

“There are some realities around Hull FC,” McDermott said.

“It’s the second time in two weeks they have shipped 60 points plus. I see them making the top six, but the teams that they are playing I see them picking up wins.

“They’ve got nine wins and I think they will pick up five wins from the remaining games, but they can’t afford another bad loss.”

Jon Wilkin, meanwhile, believes that Hull will not be able to find the consistency necessary

“Wigan and St Helens have set the benchmark for Hull and they are in the territory where they have ben inconsistent for a number of years.

“What they need is consistency from now until the end of the year can they get that? The evidence suggests that is difficult to change.”

Up next for Hull is an interesting battle: they come up against former head coach Lee Radford who is now in charge of Castleford Tigers.

The Tigers currently sit above the Black and Whites in the Super League table, with one more win to their name after a stellar performance against Warrington Wolves at the weekend.
