Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin gives his assessment of Warrington Wolves

RFL player charges

Warrington Wolves but opponents Castleford Tigers to the sword last Thursday night, live on Sky Sports.

They ended up with a 34-10 victory after completely outplaying their West Yorkshire rivals as Daryl Powell took charge of the Wolves for the first time against his former side.

And, for Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin, Warrington have an exciting time ahead of them – if Powell can add the steel in defence needed for a title charge.

“I thought they grew into the game and got better as the game went on.

“I thought Cas’ game was punctuated by errors and ill-discipline and Warrington took advantage of that.

“The spine is incredibly strong and if you can add the steel and willingness to defend and emphasise defensive attributes I think it is an exciting time to be a Warrington fan.”

Tries from Matty Ashton, Josh Charnley, Peter Mata’utia, Rob Mulhern and Gareth Widdop sent the Wolves on their way as the Tigers could only reply through Derrell Olpherts and Jake Trueman.

After a sullied performance against Leeds last week, Powell acknowledged the big difference in his side’s performance compared to the showing they produced at Headingley last Saturday.

“Last week we got beat everywhere but I think we did a really good job today, we’re going to be as consistent as we can,” Powell said in his post-match press conference on Sky Sports.

“We want to build a brand for ourselves to be as successful as we can.”

Warrington take on Toulouse Olympique in the south of France on Saturday evening whilst Castleford are away at Hull KR on Friday night.
