Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin kicked up a fuss last week after criticising Leeds Rhinos’ new signing Aidan Sezer for his pre-match interview.
That led to a backlash from social media whilst Leeds head coach Richard Agar was asked about the comments in his pre-match press conference yesterday, to which he gave a thorough reply.
“I didn’t listen to Jon Wilkin’s comments for starters,” Agar said.
“He’s paid for his opinions and he’s generally got pretty good opinions but there’s room for improvement across the board.
“I thought we were too deep and played before the line, and our timing was off.
“One thing we talked about last week we lacked line speed in our defence – we need to hold some blokes accountable for that.”
However, on the Super League podcast, Wilkin has clarified his comments, relating his criticism to Sezer’s pre-match interview rather than his performance during the Rhinos’ heavy loss to the Wigan Warriors.
“He did an interview before the round two game and it was like the most uninteresting few minutes I’ve ever heard,” Wilkin told the Out Of Your League podcast.
“I wanted something more from him, I wanted a bit of energy from him to get me excited about the game.”
Leeds fell to a 34-12 defeat at the DW Stadium in the end.
