Sky pundits flabbergasted as “good tackle” is penalised with star man forced off

Barrie McDermott

It was worrying scenes at the Jungle with Joe Westerman almost flat out after a huge collision with Kane Linnett.

Remarkably, Westerman has been able to get up and walk off after it seemed he was knocked out by the huge collision.

The Tigers received a penalty for the tackle despite the fact the contact of the tackle was around the shoulder with the two clashing heads.

Barrie McDermott and Terry O’Connor were surprised by the decision.

McDermott said: “There’s nothing wrong with that.

“There is nothing in that. There’s just a head clash.”

O’Connor went further on this point: “That is a good tackle for me. It’s not a shoulder charge, he is wrapping his arms around. It is solid contact.

“It is a tough call.”

From this, McDermott responded with: “I said in the first half that when players go into tackles now if there is a reckless element they will be penalised.”

The Robins had recently pulled level through Corey Hall’s first try for the club after joining from Wakefield Trinity.

He dummied to his namesake Ryan Hall to squeeze in at the corner.

It is currently 6-all.
