Sky pundits claim Hull FC could part company with Tony Smith if they lose Good Friday derby

Easter is approaching and thus it is one of the most exciting and enjoyable rounds of Super League action.

That is because it is Rivals Round where every game is shown live on Sky Sports as the biggest games in the league take place.

Things of course peak today on Good Friday with the traditional derbies.

The action starts in Hull with the Hull derby between Hull FC and Hull KR and now the team news is in.

Adding to the tension around this derby, Jon Wells has said on Sky Sports that he thinks Tony Smith could lose his job if Hull FC lose which would make it six defeats in a row.

Asked if they dare lose, he said:

“No, and if that happens we could be talking about another potential coaching change.

“It has been a disastrous start.

“They brought Tony Smith in to re-awake the beast. This was all the talk at the start of the season that they are a big club.

“I know he has runs on the board and I think he is a great fella.”

This came after it was suggested that Wakefield Trinity boss Mark Applegarth was under pressure and Wells said: “I think if he loses it has to be a conversation. Why would it be with Wakefield and not Hull?”

Jamie Jones-Buchanan echoed this sentiment:

“I will talk in reverence about a guy who made my career, but why would it be any different?

“Some of Hull FC’s stats defensively are horrendous and tonight they have dropped under Cas. Some of what they are churning out is miles off.”
