With Betfred Super League round one now just two months away, some players remain without a club for 2025.
Pre-season is well underway and more than half the 12 top-flight outfits have announced squad numbers for the upcoming campaign, making recruitment unlikely, at least until after the action is underway.
But others do have space on the salary cap and here we list the six forwards still on the market after leaving a top flight club at the end of the 2024 season.
Luis Johnson
Most recent club: Castleford Tigers.
Super League appearances 2024: 10.
The former Warrington Wolves man joined Castleford from Hull KR ahead of the 2024 season on a one-year deal. He suffered a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL) injury in September.
Seb Ikahihifo
Most recent club: Huddersfield Giants.
Super League appearances 2024: 24
The New Zealander was with Giants from 2016 to this year, including spells on loan at Salford Red Devils in 2020 and 2021. Now 33, he has been linked with a move into the Championship.
Charlie Severs
Most recent club: Hull FC.
Super League appearances 2024: 1
The 21-year-old back-rower is taking time out of the professional game after a series of serious shoulder injuries. He had a spell on loan at home city club York Knights this year and ended the season playing for York Barbarians in Yorkshire Men’s League Division Four.
Daniel Hindmarsh-Takyi
Most recent club: Castleford Tigers.
Super League appearances 2024: 7
Signed a year ago from Queensland Cup outfit Northern Pride, the 26-year-old former London Broncos prop was released at the end of the season, half-way through his contract.
Nixon Putt
Most recent club: Castleford Tigers.
Super League appearances 2024: 7
The Papua New Guinea international second-rower spent just one season with Tigers following a move from Central Queensland Capras. He has returned to Australia for family reasons.
Sam Royle
Most recent club: St Helens
Super League appearances 2024: 7
Having come through Saints’ youth system, the back-rower, 24, made 27 first team appearances before leaving when his contract expired at the end of this year.
