Six rugby league games on TV including the return of Channel 4 fixture

Sam Tomkins

Last week saw the NRL Magic Weekend in all it’s glory broadcast on Sky Sports meaning there was a heap of games but this week sees just six.

Despite the fact there’s far fewer games the quality of those ties more than makes up for it, as does the return of free-to-air rugby league on Channel 4.

Thursday 11th May

Melbourne Storm vs Brisbane Broncos: 10:50am on Sky Sports Arena
Wakefield Trinity vs Hull FC: 8:00pm on Sky Sports Arena

The week of rugby league on TV begins with a big clash between Melbourne and Brisbane, both sides who have lost to Rabbitohs in the past two weeks. Despite that Brisbane remain top of the table and Herbie Farnworth’s side will look to extend their lead.

As for the game in England it sees a team at the foot of the table, Wakefield Trinity, host Hull FC in a huge game for the home side. Luke Gale could be set to haunt his former club who are currently on a two game winning streak whereas Wakefield look for their first win.

Friday 12th May

Penrith Panthers vs Sydney Roosters: 11:00am on Sky Sports Arena
Wigan Warriors vs Leeds Rhinos: 8:00pm on Sky Sports Arena

Friday treats us to four of the biggest teams in world rugby league with back-to-back champions Penrith hosting Victor Radley’s Sydney Roosters. Despite sitting third and eighth in the table both sides actually have 12 points, suggesting what could be a very tight game.

Super League then sees second-placed Wigan look to recover from their shock loss to Hull FC as they bid to return to the top of the table when they host Rohan Smith’s Rhinos. Leeds also lost last week and this game will serve as a taster for the side’s facing off against each other next weekend in the Challenge Cup.

Saturday 13th May

Canberra Raiders vs Parramatta Eels: 10:35am on Sky Sports Action
St Helens vs Salford Red Devils: 1:00pm on Channel 4

Having won just one of their opening five games Canberra have been on a bit of a tear of late with four wins on the spin which started with a shock win over Brisbane. As for Parramatta they’ve fallen to defat versus Brisbane lately but more shockingly lost to Kruise Leeming’s Gold Coast Titans, albeit Leeming featured as the Titans’ 18th man.

The second Saturday game sees the return of Super League to fee-to-air television with St Helens facing off against Salford Red Devils on Channel 4. Saints return home after a tough loss to Catalans in which they conceded 24 unanswered points whereas the Red Devils are flying high having beaten Leeds to make it four in a row.
