Barring a major change London Broncos will be relegated from Super League under IMG regardless of their finishing position and with so many players out of contract, they appear set to be picked apart by Super League rivals.
In recent weeks it seems to have clicked for London and the Broncos have managed to pull level on points with fellow strugglers Hull FC, however, their fate seems certain in what head coach Mike Eccles recently labelled a “laughing stock” of a situation.
Relegation seems certain despite their resurgence in form and this period of form has seen plenty of players put themselves in the shop window for the 2025 season.
Broncos set to be picked apart with huge off-contract list
The club have already seen three players confirmed as having signed for rival sides in 2025 with Super League, Championship and French Elite One suitors already ‘picking the bones’ off the ‘carcass’ that is a relegated London Broncos.
Hull KR have swooped for last season’s Championship Young Player of the Year, Bill Leyland, with the hooker signing despite missing all season with an ACL injury. Ethan Natoli has agreed to a deal with Pia Donkeys in the French Elite One whilst powerhouse forward Emmanuel Waine has committed to Bradford Bulls.
After their Magic Weekend win over Hull FC, Mike Eccles revealed: “It’s pretty tough behind the scenes at the minute. We were losing a player a week and now we’re losing two players a week. That team won’t be together, that’s done.”
With over 20 players off contract. we’ve examined six of their most talented stars that could be the target of rival Super League sides.
Six off-contract stars London Broncos could lose to Super League rivals
Dean Parata
Last year’s Championship Young Player of the Year in Bill Leyland has already been signed away from London Broncos and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the competition’s Player of the Year follow.
Parata made his Super League bow aged 32 earlier this season and despite being hit by injury, the loose forward has put together a very strong campaign. In just 12 games he’s made a whopping 432 tackles, averaging 36 per game whilst making just five errors all year. The Italian international will be on the radar of several clubs in and around Super League.
Hakim Miloudi
French centre Miloudi was one of very few players who had Super League experience in this London Broncos squad and he’s shown that as one of the club’s standouts. After signing following a brief spell in France the former Hull FC man has scored four tries in his maiden campaign with the club.
What makes Miloudi such a threat though is his offload game with the centre boasting 47 in his 19 appearances, the second-most in the competition. As a federation-trained player, he would not count on the overseas quota making him an appealing option to clubs who are in need of a versatile back.
Jack Campagnolo
Another Italy international in the squad who has impressed for London Broncos is Jack Campagnolo. The Australian-born playmaker is just 26 and has impressed in limited game time, another victim of injury.
Half-back is always a position where the demand is high and at just 26, could Campagnolo be the next player to have a Super League revival just as the likes of Brodie Croft, Jackson Hastings and others have had. He recently told Serious About Rugby League that he “hasn’t got any plans yet” regarding next season.
Josh Rourke
Arguably the most talked-about London Broncos player of late is Josh Rourke with the full-back being one of Super League’s most in-form players of late. Rourke missed the majority of the season after breaking his leg in pre-season but since returning from injury he’s caught the attention of everyone.
The full-back has scored eight tries in eight games and their up-turn in form has certainly coincided with his return from injury. He’s been subject to rumours linking him with several clubs including London’s expected Super League replacement Wakefield Trinity. The 24-year-old certainly deserves a chance in 2025.
Oli Leyland
Another of those rumoured and reported to be on the move is Oli Leyland with the playmaker reported to be destined for Warrington Wolves. Leyland is just 23 but has been the club’s standout performer this season, featuring in all 23 games and registering 14 assists.
With his brother signing for Hull KR and set to remain in Super League, it’s highly likely that Leyland is snapped up by either Warrington Wolves, as reported, or another side with the playmaker not likely to be short of suitors.
Rhys Kennedy
Similar to Miloudi, Rhys Kennedy was one of just a handful of players with Super League experience heading into 2024. The Australian prop was released by Hull KR after just one year but has settled well in London and showed he’s certainly got the talent and importantly the effort to be a starting prop in the competition.
The 29-year-old has played in 22 of London’s 23 games and has been a tackle monster, ranking 15th in the competition with 666 completed. In recent weeks he’s shown more maturity and has come in for particular praise from Mike Eccles and it would be no surprise for him to land a move for 2025.
