Hull FC recruitment update with ‘busy week’ expected

Hull FC interim coach Simon Grix

Hull FC are still looking to add more new faces to their squad ahead of the Super League run-in. That’s according to interim boss Simon Grix, who is hoping to see director of rugby Richie Myler secure the reinforcements they need ahead of the August 2 recruitment deadline.

Myler came through with two deals last week as Hull brought in King Vuniyayawa and Ed Chamberlain on loan, with the latter set to complete a permanent switch to the MKM Stadium at the end of season. Both men featured against Wigan Warriors on Saturday and  played a key role as Hull FC picked up what was just their third win of the campaign.

With nine games still to play, the Black and Whites‘ chances of climbing into the play-off spots are beyond slim, but they still have the opportunity to end the season well and enter a new chapter under the stewardship of John Cartwright with morale high and momentum behind them.

Grix will be focused on trying to leading Hull FC to a fourth result of the year on Saturday when they face Catalans Dragons in Perpignan, but it seems he’ll be checking in with Myler on a regular basis for updates before putting his squad together.

“Richie has got another busy week,” Grix said, per Hull Live. “We’ve got 10 days or so before the window shuts. It’s busy for a lot of clubs at the moment.

“We’re still looking. We want competition in our squad, and we need good, quality depth. I think our depth is good in terms of having those young kids there who are capable, but a year down the track when they’ve got more games under their belt, it looks a little different. That’s a process that takes time to build, but we’re happy with where they’re at now.

“We’ll get confidence from that win. No one will back us but we’ll just quietly go about trying to get better and hopefully, we can put ourselves in a position to challenge.”
