Kingstone Press National Conference Champions Siddal will be the next club to feature live on the BBC Sports Website in their Ladbrokes Challenge Cup second round tie at Pilkington Recs.
The tie will be played on a new 4G pitch at Ruskin Drive, home of the Pilkington Recs, who are based in St Helens. Halifax based Siddal won the Conference Grand Final on the Widnes Vikings’ 4G pitch last season.
Kicking off at 2:15 next Saturday (February 11th), the game can be streamed via the BBC Website.
In a trial last week, over 20,000 viewers logged in to live coverage of the first round game between Leigh Miners and Wigan St Patrick’s. The initiative was hailed a great success.
“The reaction we got to that first game was phenomenal,” commentator Dave Woods told the BBC website.
“Some 20,000 viewers tuned in, and our Twitter feed was extremely busy with people saying how much they enjoyed the game.
“People were watching all over the country and were clearly blown away by how entertaining the game was, standards produced by both the Miners and St Pats were outstanding.”
The BBC are committing to broadcasting a game from every one of the first five rounds of the Challenge Cup before switching to terrestrial television coverage from the sixth round.
