Shorrocks says he wants to be “tested” at Leigh Leopards

Leigh Leopards have announced the signing of Wigan Warriors’ forward Joe Shorrocks on a short term loan deal.

Shorrocks makes the short trip across to the Leigh Sports Village and joins initially on a two-week loan deal.

The Leopards announced the signing via their Twitter page today.

Shorrocks will add more to a pack that has already seen plenty of additions this year, a key one being Jack Hughes from Warrington.

The versatile forward will slot in as of this week and therefore on his two-week loan be available to play against Hull KR this week, before St Helens visit the Leigh Sports Village next week.

Leigh have already integrated plenty of singings into their side, seven players debuted on opening night but it was to no avail as Salford ran out 20-10 winners.

The Leopards first away trip since returning to Super League also didn’t work out as Catalans Dragons put Adrian Lam’s men away for a second successive loss.

With two win Hull KR and the World Champion’s St Helens coming up it will be a trial by fire for the Wigan forward Shorrocks.

The 23-year-old debuted for Wigan in 2019 and will look to forge a role at Leigh.

Speaking on Leigh Leopards TV he explained the move:

“I spoke to my manager a few weeks ago and obviously I knew a few of the boys. I knew Lammy because I played under him at Wigan, the ball got rolling pretty quickly and I’m excited to be here.

“I just wanted to test myself, not getting a lot of game time at Wigan so coming here is a great opportunity to play more minutes, get more game time and obviously knowing the club here and most of the boys. That was a big factor as well.”

In terms of what he wants to achieve at Leigh, he said:

“Obviously just play my part, play my role, add my bit to the team and hopefully get some wins on the board for the team and help in any way I can do.”
