Shock Grand Final venue change suggested

The sport we all love is in a period of change.

IMG are set to re-imagine the sport and there has now been talk of a potential venue change for the Grand Final with Manchester City’s Etihad being suggested by RL Commercial’s Rhodri Jones.

“Our contract runs to the end of 2024. Clearly there’s ownership changes there potentially and with that stadium development,” Jones said on BBC Five Live about Old Trafford.

“The contract at the moment actually does talk about stadium developments and what have you. So we have a level of comfort that if anything were to happen in the next 18 months, we are safe and we are covered and stay there.

“But again, just because we’ve done it for the last 25 years doesn’t mean it’s the right thing for us right now.

“There is a stadium across the city which you would argue is a bit more modern, a bit more spectator-friendly and the fact that we are based at the Etihad Stadium, we have dialogue with them.

“But it’s not just about the Grand Final that we talk to them about, we talk about all sorts of things including a potential Magic weekend, a potential new event, just to see if there is interest for them to host a rugby league event. So, we’ll see where we go on the Grand Final.”
