Sheffield sign forward from Doncaster

Sheffield Eagles have confirmed the capture of another experienced forward in Frankie Mariano for the 2020 season.

Mariano signs from Doncaster, having spent two seasons there. He has also played in the Super League for Castleford Tigers, Hull KR and Wakefield Trinity.

The 32-year-old has also had spells in the Championship. He has had two spells at Featherstone Rovers, and was also on loan at Batley Bulldogs.

“It is a step up from where I was at and I wasn’t expecting it to be fair,” he said on the Eagles’ club website.

“I didn’t have the best season at Donny due to injury, I put the feelers out there for a move and I had a chat with Tubbs (Head Coach Mark Aston).

“I am looking forward to getting started and meeting up with a few old faces as I’ve played with Jamesy (Matt James), Thacks (Anthony Thackeray) and Scott (Wheeldon).

“It should be good to get back into training and ready for the new season.”

On the capture of Mariano, Aston added: “We are highly delighted to secure Frankie’s signature,”

“We were missing another forward so it’s great to get this deal across the line.

“He has had some rotten luck with injuries over the past two seasons but he is fresh and raring to go.

“He’s hungry to fight for a place in the team and get back to the great form he has shown in the past.

“He is the type of character we need in this team and I look forward to working with him.”
