Sheffield bring in ex-Leeds hooker

Sheffield Eagles have signed former Leeds hooker Robbie Ward on a two-year deal from 2020.

The 24-year-old started his career with the Rhinos, playing 11 games and scoring two tries for the former Super League champions.

He has since had spells with Hunslet on loan and Featherstone, before joining the Rams in 2017 and going on to play over 50 games over three years.

He will now, however, link up with Mark Aston for the next two years.

“I was liking the stuff Mark (Aston) was saying about the club, especially after winning the 1895 Cup and finishing quite high in the table,” he told the Eagles’ website. “He was keen to get me signed up, I’ve heard good things about him and also about the club.

”When the deal was on the table, I snatched his hand off really. The last three years I have been signing one-season deals so you know you’re there for that year but then you wonder, around halfway through, if you’re going to be without a club come the end.

“To know I am here for two years, I can get my head down and I won’t be going anywhere.”
