Shaun Wane with important update on Sam Tomkins and Salford Red Devils star ahead of quarter-final clash

Shaun Wane named an interesting team when his England side met Greece last week in their final group stage game of the Rugby League World Cup.

His team went on to run in 17 tries in a record breaking 94-4 win over Greece at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane despite some notable absentees.

Some players, such as Herbie Farnworth, were simply rested. Meanwhile others like Kallum Watkins missed the game through a head knock whilst skipper Sam Tomkins was given the time to get his body right for the quarter-finals after an injury hit season.

But the question remained, would Tomkins and Watkins be ready to play in the quarter-final clasg against Papua New Guinea this weekend at Wigan Warriors’ DW Stadium.

Well Wane has confirmed that both his skipper and key centre Watkins are ready to feature in the do or die clash.

He simply said when asked: “They’re both fine, they’re both good.”

He also revealed that England have no injury concerns at all prior to praising his medical staff.

“No injuries at all, we’ve got two good doctors and got two good physios. We’ve got some tough players though too.”

Saturday’s game kicks off at 14:30 and TV coverage is on BBC One from 14:05.

England would meet the winners of Samoa vs Tonga in the semi-finals should they win.
