Shaun Wane shortlists captains for World Cup

Wigan Warriors head coach Shaun Wane speaks to the press after his sides 40-10 win against Salford Red Devils during the Betfred Super League Round 1 Salford Red Devils versus Wigan Warriors 02/02/2018 at the AJ Bell Stadium

Shaun Wane has revealed that his choice of England captain for this year’s World Cup is between two players.

Speaking in a press conference to the media in preparation for this week’s game against the Combined Nations All Stars, the former Wigan boss kept his cards close to his chest.

“Honestly, I’ve not finalised my team for this game yet but from my thoughts in my head, I’ve got two captains I want,” Wane said.

“I’ve not finalised that yet and if form gets better, improves or deteriorates, that would change my mind later leading into the World Cup.

“They have to keep playing well to keep the standard.”

Wane was even less talkative about whether the potential captains play in Super League or the NRL, replying “I’m down to two.”
