Shaun Wane set for rugby league return?

Former Wigan Warriors head coach Shaun Wane could be about to return to rugby league, according to League Weekly.

The 54-year-old departed the 13-man code in October to take up a role as high performance coach for Scotland’s rugby union team.

However, Wane’s job with the Scottish national team is only part-time and Thunder owner Semore Kurdi wants to bring him into the League 1 club.

With long-term ambitions of playing in Super League, it is believed Kurdi wants to offer Wane a role in the background to oversee the club’s progression.

Having left Super League in style after seven years in charge of the Warriors, Wane pointed to a new challenge and the significantly less workload as the reasons for his departure.

However, it now seems likely he will add to his working hours with Scotland RU almost immediately as a quick return to rugby league with the North East outfit looks likely.
