Shaun Wane receives star for his services to the borough

Former Wigan Warriors boss Shaun Wane is to be rewarded with a star in Wigan town centre.

The 54-year-old, who left the Warriors last year, spent 30 years involved at the rugby league club as a player and coach.

He will be recognised for his contribution to the sport today with the unveiling of a star in Believe Square.

Wane played 150 games for Wigan between 1981 and 1990 before spending eight years as head coach, winning three Super League titles.

Special people in the borough have been recognised with stars since 2011 and Wane will receive a civic reception to mark the unveiling.

Wigan Council’s executive leader David Molyneux said: “The Believe stars are an acknowledgement of support toward the local community and acts as a thank you for the positive change and pride people have brought to the borough.”
