Shaun Wane praised “superb” England as he picks out two key performances

Going into the 2013 World Cup, the last World Cup on home soil, England were stunned in their warm-up fixture by Italy but there was no such shock tonight as Shaun Wane’s men dominated Fiji.

It was 28-0 at halftime thanks to a brilliant end to the first 40 and four more tries in the second half concluded a great win for England going into the World Cup.

But what did England boss Shaun Wane think? After the game on the OurLeague app now rebranded for the World Cup, the former Wigan boss had his say noting he was happy with the performance: “Yeah the nil, I’m happy with that. I thought we did some really good stuff there. With the conditions, the way we played, the way we attacked, there was some good detail there.

“They’ll get stronger Fiji, I’m sure but overall really good performance.”

He felt England managed the conditions really well on the night too: “I thought we did some really good things. When you consider the World Cup is in October, November, this weather is going to be really important. Today the way we handled the conditions was superb.”

The England boss also picked out two stand out performers.

They were right centre and winger Kallum Watkins and Dom Young who formed a devastating partnership in the first 40 which will be hard to break up: “I thought Kallum was outstanding, I thought Dom was outstanding. We’ll have a good week’s training and get ready for Saturday.”

When asked if he had learnt anything from the fixture, Wane simply said: “Yeah, I have. There was a few things I wanted today. The result, winning but the way we took short sides I thought we did really well.”
