Shaun Wane on AJ Brimson and England’s week ahead preparing for second Test

Shaun Wane

Shaun Wane failed to rule out the possibility of bringing AJ Brimson into the England line-up for the second Ashes Test in Liverpool next weekend.

England were well-beaten in the first Test against Australia on Saturday, losing 26-6 at Wembley Stadium in front of over 60,000 fans.

Daryl Clark got England’s only try of the game, but that came after conceding four efforts from those in green and gold with Reece Walsh and Angus Crichton both scoring braces.

As such, the next few days promise to be busy for Wane as he assess where England went wrong at the national stadium. Every member of the 17-man squad will be scrutinised, too, with the head coach suggesting that changes could be on the way.

Brimson will be one of those men hoping for an opportunity to show what he can do at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and with Jack Welsby being one of those to struggle under the Wembley arch, Wane might just look his way next Saturday.

“I’ve got a strong 24 and that’s the whole point of having a 24,” Wane said when asked about Brimson. “We’ll have a look at everybody. We’ll be better next week. We’ll have a good week and we’ll make the right changes.”

Pushed on the Australian-born playmaker, Wane said: “I will be looking at everything. Every single position will be analysed with us being obsessed with trying to get the win. If he is the man then we’ll make that change.”

Shaun Wane details the week ahead for England

England have seven days until they take to the field again and while Wane will expect the Kangaroos to be better for another week spent on British soil, the head coach is determined to see an improved performance from his own side.

“It’s easy for us,” Wane said. “The only thing in our mind now is ending the game at Everton and us being the winners. We have to win.

“Working back from that, that dictates how you train, how you speak, how you video is run, it dictates everything. We’ll look after ourselves. This will hurt the boys but we’ll dust ourselves down, get in the video room and do some work.”

Be honest the Aussies never got out of 2nd gear. Shaun Wane is pretty clueless as a coach and the only try we score is by a bloke well over 30.
With an Aussie Ref in charge for the next test the ruck speed will speed up.That can only help them. The slow, over cautious officiating by Moore and Smith. Both of whom made mistakes, will be exposed by better refereeing

The kicking game by Lewis was poor and he needs to take the line on more often.
Farnworth may be better suited to FB to get the ball more.Luke Thompson would give you extra grunt than Bateman and Walmsley only plays for two 15 to 20 minute spells. Why?
Can see a pasting coming unfortunately at Everton.
