Shaun Wane names England team to face Papua New Guinea in World Cup quarter-final

Shaun Wane has named his England team to face Papua New Guinea in the Rugby League World Cup quarter-final at the DW Stadium.

Wane has brought captain Sam Tomkins back into the full-back role in an identical back line to the one that faced Samoa in the opening game at St James’ Park.

Jack Welsby returns to the halves to partner George Williams, while Chris Hill and Tom Burgess are preferred in the front row.

Victor Radley continues at loose forward with Morgan Knowles on a hefty looking bench alongside Mike Cooper, Mike McMeeken, and Matty Lees.

The match in Wigan is expected to draw a big crowd, with a victory taking Wane’s men through to a potentially mouth-watering semi-final against Tonga or Samoa.
