Shaun Wane makes ominous promise about England as he picks out two men who impressed him in 46-6 win

Ex-Wigan Warriors boss now turned England coach Shaun Wane is notoriously hard to please as he goes in search of success.

That’s been no difference as he tries to spearhead England’s World Cup hopes and now they are 80 minutes away from the final following a 46-6 win over Papua New Guinea at the DW Stadium.

After the game, talking to the BBC, Wane was pleased but only about the first 35 minutes after which England led 38-0.

He said: “I thought we did really well there. I thought the first half was faultless. The last five minutes before halftime we could improve on.

“The second half was a bit scrappy but overall to beat a good team like Papua New Guinea to get to the semi-finals of a World Cup, I’m really, really impressed.”

He also picked out two forwards who particularly impressed him today: “I was really impressed today by Burgess, the way we started out I thought he was really good. Victor Radley marshalled our middles really well and got our foothold in the game.

“I’ve got good players on the bench, we’re in a good place.”

He also had an ominous warning for the other teams as we progress into the final about how good this England team can get: “We’ll keep improving, every time we train we get better. We’ll do a review in the morning and we can get better than game, because that’s the way we do things and hopefully we can improve.”
