Shaun Wane loves ex-Leeds Rhinos star but gives no guarantee of spot in side

Yesterday Shaun Wane made a number of changes to his side after a 60-6 win over Samoa at St James’ Park.

As England battled France, Wane brought in six of the seven players who missed the opener culminating in a change on the wing with England’s highest ever try scorer Ryan Hall replacing St Helens on the left wing for his 41st cap.

He wasted no time in adding to his record number of tries for England with a quick fire brace as he continues his battle with Makinson for that spot on the wing.

Dom Young, who again scored a world class brace, seems immovable on the right wing.

After the game, Shaun Wane spoke highly on the former Leeds winger who has been shining for Hull KR over the last few years.

In fact, he said he “loves” the veteran winger to pieces.

He said: “He is a good player, I have three fantastic wingers and we are a very proud nation, we’ve got really good players and Ryan is definitely one of them.

“The way he has trained and handled himself since we have been in camp has been impeccable.

“I love him to pieces, I have never said that to him before, I don’t know where that has come from, but I rate him really highly.”

So beloved by his coach, there’s still no guarantee that he’ll play ahead of Tommy Makinson.
