“Several” Super League clubs circle for Penrith Panthers star

A number of Super League clubs are reportedly circling to try and sign a Penrith Panthers man who has been a mainstay in all four NRL-winning seasons.

The Panthers have dominated rugby league Down Under in recent years with Ivan Cleary’s side winning the premiership in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, setting about on a dynasty of the like which has not been seen in the NRL in the 21st century.

Each and every year, it’s expected that the dynasty will crumble but the Panthers keep finding a way and one of the key men in their success is New Zealand international Scott Sorenson.

Sorenson only played 16 games in 2024 but had racked up 19, 24 and 23 appearances in the three seasons prior, whilst he’s also played in four game so far in 2025 which showcases his importance to the Panthers.

The 32-year-old Kiwi has another year on his contract beyond the current season but that is not stopping “several” Super League clubs “eyeing” him up according to reports.

Those reports have come from Wide World of Sports with a quote from a Super League boss provided, highlighting the level of interest.

Wide World of Sports quotes one “struggling Super League club boss” as saying: “We could offer him a three year deal, the captaincy, a car and accommodation – a good package.”

With just one year left on his current deal at Penrith, who have been forced to get rid of a number of stars across the years to try and manage their salary cap, it could be the case that the forward exiting works for both parties.

Sorenson would sign a lengthy contract whilst Penrith would get an ageing player off their books, however, according to the reports, talks have yet to take place with any Super League side.
