Five Super League free agents available to sign including Hull FC and Leeds Rhinos stars

At the conclusion of the 2023 Super League season, there are seven players from the Betfred Super League who are free agents.

This means they have left the Super League club with whom they were signed for last year but have yet to find a new club for the 2024 season.

With that in mind, we’re taking an in depth look at these seven who could be on the radar of Super League clubs ahead of the new season.

Ilikaya Mafi (Castleford Tigers)

Born in 2003, he is yet to turn 20 and has already been at Hull FC and Castleford Tigers. Capable of playing prop and loose-forward, he would be a handy signing to add depth to any side in Super League or indeed in the Championship.

Luis Johnson (Hull KR)

A player who stood out for Hull KR under Tony Smith after his move for Warrington Wolves especially in 2021, it is clear he has lost some momentum in the last two years. He had a very brief spell at Castleford Tigers who looked interested in keeping him permanently but was soon brought back to Craven Park for squad depth but now his future remains unclear.

Blake Austin (Leeds Rhinos)

The biggest name on this list by far. It is unlikely the former Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves and Castleford Tigers halfback won’t play in Super League ever again after returning to Australia. It remains to be seen if he will join an NRL club down under.

James Greenwood (Salford Red Devils)

A player with great pedigree having played for the likes of Wigan Warriors and Hull KR in the past. He would bring experience to any club he would join in 2024 be it a Super League club or a Championship side.

Daniel Hill (St Helens)

A promising fullback, Hill was brought to St Helens in 2022 from Widnes Vikings. However, the expiry of his two year deal has seen him leave the club and he will likely pick up a club in the Championship.
