The 2024 Super League regular season is over and it’s been a memorable one with several records falling and bizarre stats being recorded.
Ahead of the play-offs, we’ve looked into some of those strange trends and picked out seven statistics including discipline, points and win percentages in what has been a blockbuster 2024 Super League season.
2024 Super League Stats
Most red cards in a 27-game* season (21)
When Round One of Super League saw four red cards dished out, this number could have been a lot higher but it’s still far higher than fans, players and even the referees would like. The rightful crackdown to prevent brain health issues has seen this number rise, up from just eight in 2023.
Most yellow cards in a 27-game* season (145)
Just like the red cards, this number has flown up to the point of reaching almost one card per game. In total, a whopping 145 yellow cards have been shown compared to just 78 in 2023, almost a 100% increase. Hull FC and Leigh Leopards are the worst offenders with Leigh skipper John Asiata picking up four himself.
Lowest-ever win percentage in Hull FC history (3/28 – 10.71%)
With their defeat against Catalans Dragons on the final day of the Super League season, it marked the worst-ever win percentage for Hull FC in club history for a League and Cup campaign. The Black and Whites won just three of their 28 games, although somehow one of those victories came against League Leaders Shield winners Wigan Warriors.
Second lowest-scoring Super League season ever (6,436 points scored)
The 2024 edition has seen some blowout scores which makes this a surprising stat but the number of shut-outs and tight low-scoring affairs has meant that just 6,436 points have been scored. That’s just four more than in 2023 which is the lowest scoring season.
Third-lowest points scored per game (London Broncos – 11.74)
With a squad that was put together last minute after their somewhat surprising promotion to Super League, it’s no surprise that London Broncos feature on the list for this club-low record and the third lowest-scoring Super League season ever.
Fifth-lowest points scored per game (Hull FC – 12.15)
What is more surprising is this one. Hull FC’s season marked the fifth-lowest-scoring Super League season on record as they tallied just nine points more than the Broncos. Given the disparity in theirs and London’s salary cap, it goes to show just how poor the Black and Whites were in 2024.
Fourth, fifth and sixth best defences ever (Warrington Wolves – 11.81 PPG conceded, Hull KR – 12.07 PPG conceded and Wigan Warriors – 12.52 PPG conceded)
On the opposite end of the spectrum from scoring points is keeping them out and this year’s top three teams did so brilliantly. Warrington had the sharpest defence in the league, followed by Hull KR and then Wigan. All three enter the top 10 list for the best-ever Super League defences statistically, no doubt helped by two of the poorest attacks in competition history.
