Season over for England hopeful following shocking injury

Salford Red Devils’ Kallum Watkins will be out for the season with a torn ACL, the centre revealed on Instagram.

“I went in for surgery on my meniscus and MCL and both have been repaired,” Watkins wrote.

“Unfortunately, they had to check my ACL which they said they would do, to then find out it’s been torn as well.

“So at the moment I’m devastated with the news as I thought I would be out for 10 weeks but that has now been extended.

“My season is over but I was also pushing hard to get into the England squad for the World Cup. That will not happen now.

“I know that I’ll be back, bigger, better and stronger, both physically and mentally.”

Watkins has played 20 games for the Red Devils, scoring four tries, but was hitting the kind of form that could have led to a call-up from Shaun Wane for the England squad before suffering this injury.
