Ryan Carr has again been left reeling after individual errors cost them the game against York Knights.
Carr’s side were 10-6 up at half-time, but an underwhelming second half saw them capitulate, allowing the Knights to claim their fourth win of the Super League campaign.
Jason Qareqare crossed for yet another try, and Semi Valemei bagged two on his return to the side, but plenty more opportunities should have been converted if it weren’t for basic errors holding them back.
“Disappointing” was the one-word response given by the Castleford boss when asked to sum up his overall thoughts post-match, with his lack of response signifying how he felt about the display.
Pushed further for specifics, Carr replied: “Fundamental stuff in our game. I thought our effort was great, our attitude was unreal.
“That’s six in a row now, where I think we’ve tipped everything into the performance. We just got schoolboy stuff wrong tonight.
“…We fought really hard, so I was proud of the effort, but we can’t win games at this level of that sort of behaviour.”
“…The second half, all we did was tackle on our try line. We got there in the last five minutes of the game, but you don’t deserve to win when you come up with some of the errors we come up with.”
Carr went on to say that it was individual moments, rather than collective, that cost them the two points, with the boss saying that frank conversations will be had with some members of the squad.
Although the game will again go down as a defeat, the Tigers remain a completely different side to that of the early part of 2026. The attitude and efforts are there, which is an improvement, but that goes out of the window when individual errors are so prominent.
“They’re [defeats] all hard to cop. We come here, our crowd’s great, they turn up and support us. Like I said, effort and attitude was great tonight.
“That level was enough to win with that side of the game, but the fundamental errors in the second half weren’t.
“I feel like we built the first half to finish over them in the second half, and then we just weren’t able to execute that, so that’s on us.”
The Tigers will be without Jordan Lane next week at Magic Weekend, after he failed a HIA in the first half. Jack Brown passed his concussion assessment, so can feature against Wakefield.
