SARL Poll backs Slater to have a Grand Final swansong as D-day approaches

NRL Round 13 Preview

55% of Rugby League fans have said that Billy Slater should be allowed to play his final game in Sunday’s NRL Grand Final . We conducted a poll on our Twitter page and over half of the nearly 700 people polled said he shouldn’t be suspended .

The Australian legend faces a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday after being charged with a Grade one offence for an alleged shoulder charge during the Storms semi final win over Cronulla last Friday  , and must fight the charge at the hearing .

Slater retires at the end of the season and the Rugby world is split on whether he should be allowed a sentimental end to his career on domestic rugby’s biggest day  , in fact it has led to calls for another debate on the laws surrounding the shoulder charge . Slater and his club are convinced he can fight the charge and line up for the final time in Sunday’s Grand Final against the Roosters .

His cause has been helped by backing from his opponents on Sunday with James Tedesco and Daniel Tupou coming out in support of his appeal .

Sharks legend Luke Lewis has also come to his defence stating “What do you want him to do?
“He’s one of the best defensive fullbacks in the game and you have to stop a try and put your body on the line.
If someone was to miss a game for something like that, I don’t know what our game would be coming to. It’s a contact sport.”
