Sarginson has two-game ban overturned

Salford utility back Dan Sarginson has had his two-match suspension for a reckless high tackle overturned following an appeal.

The 27-year-old was sin-binned during the Red Devils’ 28-22 win over Hull FC for a high shot on Black and Whites fullback Jamie Shaul, with his ban prompting head coach Ian Watson to criticise players for ‘cheating penalties’.

He was due to miss Salford’s Challenge Cup semi-final against Warrington on Saturday, however an independent tribunal downgraded the offence from Grade B to Grade A, concluding it was ‘careless’ rather than ‘reckless’.

A Grade A charge does not carry a suspension, meaning Sarginson is free to play against the Wolves.

His teammate Luke Yates is also awaiting a decision on an appeal, after he received a one-match ban for Grade B Dangerous Contact in the same game.
